FILTER Frontman RICHARD PATRICK's A PLACE TO KILL Project To Release Second EP In 'The Next Couple Of Months'

In a new interview with Razor of Tucson, Arizona's Rock 102.1 KFMA radio station, Richard Patrick, platinum-selling FILTER mastermind and film/TV composer, and Jim Louvau, vocalist of THERE IS NO US and a renowned photographer and acclaimed music video director, spoke about their collaborative project A PLACE TO KILL, which released its debut seven-song EP, "APTK", in June. Regarding his songwriting chemistry with Louvau, Patrick said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It's very spontaneous. It's not over-thought out. I mean, we just get in, we write some lyrics, we put some vocals on it, and just make it work musically and in a short amount of time. And that's why we're already — we've released one EP already, and we're already releasing a second, because there's so much music that we could just keep pumping out because it's so spontaneous and easy. And when something comes along and it's really fun and easy to make, that is 90% of the reason why bands break up, because they hit a brick wall creatively. They get blocked. And with us, it's just, like, let's just keep going until the wheels fall off. Let's just keep going and making new music while it's fun and exciting."

On the topic of A PLACE TO KILL possibly performing live, Richard said: "I could see something within the next couple of years, for sure. Something would be cool to do. FILTER goes out, maybe A PLACE TO KILL opens up for FILTER. There's a few ideas swimming around out there that we like."

As for what A PLACE TO KILL's live show might look like, Patrick said: "It's gonna be us two and some smoke, some fog machines and some lights. And just us two laying it down. It comes more from, like, if you see a kid like Scarlxrd or something, or Deadmau5 or something, it's more of an EDM approach towards a live scenario. So it'd be just the two of us. It wouldn't have a lot of people on stage — no dancers or anything crazy. Just us bringing it. I could see us on festivals, for sure. I could see us coming out in festivals, for sure. Yeah."

Regarding A PLACE TO KILL's plans to release more new music, Richard said: "[We'll put out another] EP that would be kind of packaged together [with the first one], probably. Like, if we release a vinyl, it'd be the first EP on one side, the second EP on the other side. Make a CD that's a collection of both works. 'Cause there's different ways you can release music now. And for us, it was, like, let's just get the first EP out in its entirety, because I wanted everyone to hear it. Because when I hear bands that have released new singles, I'm, like, 'Oh, I can't wait to hear the record.' And then they're, like, 'Well, come back in a week, and we'll release another song.' I just wanted to hear something immediately. Like, 'I like this single. What's the rest of the record like? What's the rest of it?' So we put out the full EP. But the second EP is gonna come out in singles. It's not gonna be released all at once. It's gonna be released later, over the next couple of months, one single after another, kind of thing. But we have to make videos for it and stuff like that, so we're gonna focus on videos for the next EP. 'Cause we're a very multidimensional, media-type situation where we really wanna have content out there for people to find and scroll through on Insta or whatever, YouTube or whatever. But, yeah, there's a lot of stuff coming up in the next couple of months, for sure, with A PLACE TO KILL."

The duo first crossed paths in 2008, when Louvau interviewed Patrick before a FILTER show. Patrick later caught Louvau's blistering performance at THERE IS NO US's second-ever show at The Roxy years later. "We would always talk about starting a project together whenever we spoke or saw each other," Louvau said.

A PLACE TO KILL released its debut track, "The Killing Field", in early 2023 as the B-side of FILTER's "For The Beaten" limited-edition vinyl single.
